Course Description
 
This introductory course aims to provide students with background knowledge on Buddhist texts and traditions from Indian to Asian countries such as China, Korea, Japan, Tibet, Vietnam and Taiwan. Students will learn textual sources and fundamental features and concepts of Buddhist traditions in different areas. Students will also learn philological methods to identify manuscripts and different recensions of a text. The course assists students in using not only ancient materials but also modern resources such as academic scholarship, databases, dictionaries, in paper or digital form for their future writing of academic reports and thesis.

Course Objectives
