Course Description
 
本課程旨在介紹自大乘佛教興起至印度佛教興亡的發展歷程,著重探討其在社會、文化和思想層面的演變。課程將涵蓋大乘佛教興起的時空背景、大乘佛教的思想特色,以及其傳播。透過對歷史事件、經典文獻和思想脈絡的梳理,課程將幫助學生全面理解大乘佛教的性格以及其在佛教史中的意義與影響。

This course aims to introduce the developmental trajectory of Indian Buddhism from the emergence of Mahāyāna Buddhism to the decline of Buddhism in India, focusing on its social, cultural, and intellectual transformations. The course will cover the historical and cultural context in which Mahāyāna Buddhism arose, its distinctive philosophical characteristics, and its subsequent dissemination. By examining historical events, canonical texts, and the evolution of key ideas, the course will provide students with a comprehensive understanding of the nature of Mahāyāna Buddhism and its significance and impact on Buddhist history.

Course Objectives

1使學生理解大乘佛教出現的歷史及文化因素。 To help students understand the historical and cultural factors that contributed to the emergence of Mahāyāna Buddhism.
2使學生理解初期大乘中重要經典的思想。 To enable students to grasp the key ideas of significant early Mahāyāna scriptures.
3使學生理解中觀、唯識、如來藏三系的主張,以及秘密佛教的思想特色。 To provide students with an understanding of the core tenets of the Madhyamaka, Yogācāra, and Tathāgatagarbha traditions, as well as the distinctive characteristics of Esoteric Buddhism.
4使學生習得大乘佛教的傳播歷史。 To equip students with knowledge of the historical dissemination of Mahāyāna Buddhism.
5使學生習得印度佛教消亡之原因 To help students comprehend the reasons behind the decline of Buddhism in India.

1. 學生請假悉依本校「學則」及「學生請假辦法」規定辦理。
2. 依本校「學則」第33條,曠課一小時,以缺課二小時論。學生某一科目之缺課總時數達該科全學期授課時數三分之一,經該科教師扣考後,即不准參加該科目之學期各項學習成績考試或評量。
