Course Description

Buddhism is not confined to scriptures and texts, nor is it limited to secluded meditation in the mountains. It also embodies an active dimension of benefiting and guiding sentient beings. This course aims to explore the relationship between Buddhism and social welfare, focusing on the study of Buddhist doctrines and an in-depth discussion of ideas and concepts related to social welfare within Buddhist teachings, as well as historical examples of Buddhist engagement in social welfare practices. Additionally, the course will introduce theories of social welfare, enabling students to understand its core principles and historical development. The ultimate goal is to prepare students for future research in related fields or participation in social service work, applying Buddhist principles to modern society.
