Course Description

南亞與東南亞的佛教常被稱為「上座部佛教」，然而該地區的佛教傳統實際上更加多元化。本課程探討南亞與東南亞佛教的豐富表現與實踐，涵蓋其歷史發展、文化多樣性與當代議題。主要主題包括現代化改革、與在地文化的互動，以及禪修實踐的復興。學生將培養分析能力，以理解佛教傳統如何隨著全球趨勢演變與調適。積極參與課堂討論對於深入理解課程內容至關重要。請注意這是全英語授課的課程。

Buddhism in South and Southeast Asia is often referred to as "Theravāda Buddhism," yet the region's Buddhist traditions are far more diverse. This course examines the rich expressions and practices of Buddhism across South and Southeast Asia, exploring its historical development, cultural diversity, and contemporary issues. Key topics include modernist reforms, the interplay with local cultures, and the resurgence of meditation practices. Students will develop analytical skills to understand how Buddhist traditions have evolved and adapted to global trends. Active engagement in class discussions is essential for a deeper comprehension of the subject matter. Please note that this course is conducted entirely in English.
