Course Description
 
本課程以佛教在近現代的轉變為主軸，探討佛教如何回應、調適並參與現代社會中的各種變遷。內容涵蓋佛教面對殖民、現代性、全球化、國族主義、性別議題、社會改革、科技發展與當代倫理挑戰等議題。透過學術論文、歷史研究與當代佛教實例，學生將理解佛教不只是宗教傳統，也是一套在現代社會中持續變動、重構與實踐的文化與社會力量。

This course takes the transformations of Buddhism in the modern and contemporary eras as its central focus, examining how Buddhism responds, adapts to, and participates in various forms of social change. The course covers a wide range of topics, including Buddhism’s encounters with colonialism, modernity, globalization, nationalism, gender issues, social reform, technological development, and contemporary ethical challenges. Through engagement with scholarly articles, historical studies, and case analyses of contemporary Buddhist practices, students will come to understand Buddhism not merely as a religious tradition, but as a dynamic cultural and social force that is continually reshaped, reconstructed, and enacted within modern society.

 理解佛教在近代與當代的重要歷史轉折與現代化歷程。To understand the major historical turning points and modernization processes of Buddhism in the modern and contemporary periods.
 分析佛教如何因應殖民、全球化、科技化與世俗化等現代社會變遷。To analyze how Buddhism responds to modern social transformations such as colonialism, globalization, technological development, and secularization.
 探討當代佛教在性別、社會參與、倫理實踐中的角色與挑戰。To examine the roles and challenges of contemporary Buddhism in areas such as gender, social engagement, and ethical practice.
 培養學生對當代宗教現象的批判思考與跨文化比較能力。To cultivate students’ critical thinking and cross-cultural comparative skills in the study of contemporary religious phenomena.

學生請假規則

 1. 學生請假悉依本校「學則」及「學生請假辦法」規定辦理。
2. 依本校「學則」第33條，曠課一小時，以缺課二小時論。學生某一科目之缺課總時數達該科全學期授課時數三分之一，經該科教師扣考後，即不准參加該科目之學期各項學習成績考試或評量。
