本課程旨在建立一個跨領域的對話平台,深入探討佛學觀點與心理學理論、實徵研究及應用之間的關係與融合可能性。這是一個雙向交流的過程:我們將從心理學的角度審視佛學,同時也從佛學的視角反觀心理學。 佛學博大精深,其核心在於透過修養,來實現人生的健康、幸福、圓滿與解脫。這部分是目前主流心理學較少觸及的,因此,佛學恰好能彌補當前心理學的不足。 然而,佛學並非西方科學典範下的知識體系。本課程將系統性地介紹,如何以佛學的「自性本空」原理為核心,將其轉化為可引導實證研究與應用的「心理學」理論。
課程將介紹黃光國國家講座教授所提出的「文化系統觀策略」,作為將佛學轉化為心理學知識的工具。首先,我們會學習西方科學哲學,並釐清佛學與一神文化在信仰結構上的根本差異:1.自性本空VS 他性神2.佛 VS 一神的信仰結構3.戒定慧。 接下來,課程將透過四部曲,具體建構佛學心理學:1.先建系列理論:形式性的(硬核)理論,將具有「普遍性」的佛學建構成形式性的心理學理論,適用全人類(普世性)的理論。2.可以建實質性的系列(硬核)理論3.如此來引領各種片面性與分析式的信念與健康研究。4.應用層面與出版相關書籍。 建構佛學心理學還可以達到四個重要的目標:1.解決人類的重要問題。2.擺脫被西方學術殖民。 3.建立自主的社會科學。4.將佛學進行現代化,成果可讓全世界可以來運用與增進人類福祉。
This course aims to establish an interdisciplinary dialogue platform to explore in depth the relationship and possible integration between Buddhist perspectives and psychological theories, empirical research, and applications. It is a two-way exchange: we will examine Buddhism from the standpoint of psychology, while also reflecting on psychology from the perspective of Buddhism. Buddhism is profound and far-reaching, with its core centered on self-cultivation as the path to achieving health, happiness, fulfillment, and liberation. This dimension is something that mainstream psychology has rarely addressed, and thus Buddhism can complement the current shortcomings of psychology. However, Buddhism is not a knowledge system developed under the Western scientific paradigm. This course will systematically introduce how the Buddhist principle of “the emptiness of self-nature” can serve as the foundation for transforming Buddhism into psychological theories that can guide empirical research and practical applications. The course will also introduce Professor Kwang-Kuo Hwang’s “Cultural System Approach” as a methodological tool for transforming Buddhism into psychological knowledge. We will begin by studying Western philosophy of science and clarifying the fundamental differences in belief structures between Buddhism and monotheistic traditions: 1. Emptiness of self-nature vs. external deity 2. Buddha vs. the monotheistic belief structure 3. Precepts, meditation, and wisdom (śīla, samādhi, and prajñā) Next, the course will develop Buddhist psychology through four concrete stages: 1. Constructing a series of formal (hard-core) theories, which transform universally valid aspects of Buddhism into formal psychological theories applicable to all humanity. 2. Developing a series of substantive (hard-core) theories. 3. Using these theories to guide various fragmented and analytic approaches in belief and health research. 4. Applying the theories in practice and publishing related works. Constructing Buddhist psychology will further achieve four important goals: 1. Addressing crucial problems facing humanity. 2. Overcoming the domination of Western academic colonialism. 3. Establishing an autonomous social science. 4. Modernizing Buddhism so that its outcomes can be applied worldwide to enhance human wellbeing.
