Course Description

釋氏文獻翻譯原於古代印度，直至今日遍五大洲仍在進行。本課程重點在
為漫長歷史中產生的佛典寶藏，提供嚴謹學術研究必備的概念，
包括一般不同文化、年代、區域、語言、文字相關背景知識以及專門翻譯理論。
（學生理應上過「佛典翻譯研究入門」前一單元。）
Buddhist texts have a long history of translation, starting already in ancient India and continuing right into the modern world. For serious research in the texts thus produced, sound knowledge is required concerning differences in cultural, historical and of course linguistic background.
(It is expected that the student has successfully taken part one of this course.)

Course Objectives

	幫助學生瞭解翻譯作為文化接觸、交流中產生的現象，面向極其多元複雜 probing into the complexity of translation as a phenomenon of cultural contact and exchange
	讓學生認識到翻譯早在印度已是佛教弘傳不可或缺的因素 creating an awareness that translation was an integral part of the spread of Buddhism in India
	釐清中亞在佛教傳布歷史上所扮演的關鍵角色 clarifying the role of Central Asia in the transmission of Buddhist literature
	介紹佛典傳入遠東、蒙藏的歷史概要 discussing the introduction of Buddhist scriptures to the Sinosphere as well as Tibet and Mongolia
	讓學生體察到近代釋典翻譯，無論是白話文翻譯抑或西文翻譯，具有重大意義 familiarizing the students with translation into modern languages

學生請假規則

1. 學生請假悉依本校「學則」及「學生請假辦法」規定辦理。
2. 依本校「學則」第33條，曠課一小時，以缺課二小時論。學生某一科目之缺課總時數達該科全學期授課時數三分之一，經該科教師扣考後，即不准參加該科目之學期各項學習成績考試或評量。
