Course Description

本課程以文學與東西方兩大傳統宗教為研究核心，認識與理解宗教層面的人生觀及宇宙觀、救贖論、信仰與實踐之間的關聯性，開展基督教聖經文學、佛學名著選讀、禪宗文學的比較研究與對話，探討不同宗教傳統文化裡各種宗教神話、傳說、與教義，如何透過文學敘事類型: 經典、寓言、詩歌、散文、小說展現出來。培養研究生之人文關懷、宗教哲思與問題討論的能力。希冀從宗教哲學的觀點與角度，探索圓滿生命的具體實踐與力行之道。
This course aims at exploring some ways in which religious ideas and practices appear in works of literature from different cultures. Most of the reading selections will be from the Buddhist tradition from the East and Christian tradition from the West. Several works that deal with issues in Zen and Japanese and American literature are also selected. This course will examine religious themes in a variety of literary forms, including those of classic scriptures, myth, history, parable, prose, poem, and novel. Students will learn how literary works transmit religious teachings, such as world-views, incarnations, redemption, and the way of practices of Buddhism and Christianity.
