Course Description
 
本課程之命名,除了出於明末來華的耶穌會士試圖從「中國經典」來理解中國人的途徑,以及韋伯(Max Weber, 1864-1920)《中國的宗教:儒教與道教》的經典研究之外,在二十世紀最為著名的就是由早逝之天才史家列文森(Joseph R. Levenson, 1920-1969)所提出的《儒教中國及其現代命運》。此後一、兩個世代的思想史家,無論中外,往往皆在有意無意之間呼應/辯駁/修正其論述,從張灝、林毓生、德里克(Arif Dirlik)到今日分處兩岸學界的代表性思想史家羅志田、黃克武,以及德國史家施耐德(Axel Schneider)。我們姑且不論中國文化豐富而充滿岐義的內容是否為「儒教」所限定,列文森精心構築的三部曲仍然值得我們重視。本課程希望藉由精讀其人其說最新且最完善的中譯本,重訪此一經典命題。
The name of this course comes not only from the Jesuits who came to China in the late Ming Dynasty who tried to understand the Chinese people from the "Chinese classics", but also from the classic "Religion in China: Confucianism and Taoism" by Max Weber (1864-1920) In addition to research, the most famous book in the twentieth century was "Confucian China and Its Modern Destiny" proposed by the genius historian Joseph R. Levenson (1920-1969) who died young.
In the next one or two generations, intellectual historians, both Chinese and foreign, often echoed/refuted/revised his discussions intentionally or unintentionally, from Zhang Hao, Lin Yusheng, and Arif Dirlik to today's representative thinkers in academic circles on both sides of the Taiwan Strait. Historians Luo Zhitian, Huang Kewu, and German historian Axel Schneider. Regardless of whether the rich and ambiguous content of Chinese culture is limited by "Confucianism", Levinson's carefully constructed trilogy still deserves our attention. This course hopes to revisit this classic proposition through an intensive reading of the latest and most complete Chinese translation of "Zhi Ren Qi Shuo".

1. 學生請假悉依本校「學則」及「學生請假辦法」規定辦理。
2. 依本校「學則」第33條,曠課一小時,以缺課二小時論。學生某一科目之缺課總時數達該科全學期授課時數三分之一,經該科教師扣考後,即不准參加該科目之學期各項學習成績考試或評量。
