Course Description
 
本課程在於介紹同學認識重要的社會學古典理論的發展，在閱讀上以Giddens的《資本主義與現代社會理論》(Capitalism and Modern Social Theory)一書為主要的討論對象，該書主要是以資本主義作為認識現代社會的關鍵主軸，從而引領我們進入三大古典社會學理論大家的思想世界，他們分別是：馬克思(Karl Marx, 1818-1883)、涂爾幹(Emile Durkheim, 1858-1917)、韋伯(Max Weber, 1864-1920)。除Gideens的文本之外，在課程中我們也將會安排同學閱讀相關的經典文獻，希望透過相關的閱讀和討論讓同學能夠充分地理解到社會學知識的起源和發展重心。
This course is designed to introduce students to the development of major classical sociological theories. The primary reading material is Anthony Giddens’ Capitalism and Modern Social Theory, which uses capitalism as a central theme for understanding modern society. Through this lens, the book guides us into the intellectual worlds of three foundational figures in classical sociology: Karl Marx (1818–1883), Emile Durkheim (1858–1917), and Max Weber (1864–1920). In addition to Giddens’ text, the course will also include selected readings from relevant classical works. Through these readings and discussions, students will gain a deeper understanding of the origins and core developments of sociological knowledge.
