Course Description
 
地球就如同植物及動物的生命一樣都是有限的。地球上氣候的變遷必然影響生物的生態環境，那麼氣候究竟是如何變遷的？影響氣候變遷的因素又是什麼？這是科學界竭心盡力想獲知的事了。最近學界追蹤數年或數十年﹑甚至數百年以上時段的氣候變化，希望了解什麼才是氣候變遷的主要制約因素。事實上，要預測未來，唯有擁有更完整的過去的變遷紀錄，才更有把握。
科學家如何去揭開過去氣候變遷的面貌呢？地質學家發現大自然氣候變遷的紀錄，保存在陸地或海洋的沈積物裡。如何去讀出氣候變遷的故事，則需靠科學的智慧。本課程將簡單介紹如何利用這些物質去認識昔日的氣候變遷。
The Earth, like plants and animals, has a finite lifespan. Climate change on Earth inevitably affects the ecological environment of living organisms. How does climate change occur, and what factors influence these changes? These are questions that the scientific community is striving to understand. Recently, scientists have been tracking climate changes over periods of years, decades, or even centuries, hoping to understand the main constraining factors of climate change. In fact, to predict the future, only having a more complete record of past changes can provide better confidence.
How do scientists uncover the patterns of past climate change? Geologists have discovered that natural climate change records are preserved in sediments on land and in the oceans. Reading these climate change stories requires scientific wisdom. This course will briefly introduce how to use these materials to understand historical climate changes.
